It Works !!!!

Today has been a very eventful day.I started off the day with no hope of completing the project.I mailed Pedram telling him that there is a slight problem regarding the project. My basic idea was this.
1) A servlet which reads an XML from a Web Service called AudioScrobbler.
2) Write the XML file onto the NEO server
3) Apply XSLT and display fancy stuff.

I didnt realize this problem. I wasnt able to write the file onto the server without the "right" permissions. So i kinda had given up. My friend showed up like a Guardian Angel and told that i could use a Server hosted by Netbeansl.Server being my Computer itself. I tried it and ran into a few "Jar file not found" errors.Fixed all that stuff. Then i was getting an error that the XML file which was supposed to be converted was not found on the working Directory. I then gave a search for the file and found it on some directory in program files. PHEW!!! . Altered the code and Voila! the project worked. But just one problem the XML file was empty. I then realized that i was so Preoccupied with the project not working that i forgot to play Music. The XML would be updated or "SCROBBLED" only when a song is played. I played a song .As the song ended i tried running the Project.
It finally worked.

Made most of the things work.Added a CSS file and created a not-so-fancy HTML page
which looks like this

Top: Displays My Top Albums

Top: Displays My Top Artists

Top: Displays My Recently Listened Songs

Turn of events!!

Well i thought musicXML would be a good topic ,turns out to be very expensive. So thought will do something regarding music itself. Theres been this cool software that i have been using called Last.fm. Its actually a site by the same name. You gotta download this piece of software off the site. This software basically keeps a track of the music you listen to.and it suggests the similar kind of music by comparing it with your existing choices. It also gives you a chance to meet people with similar music interests. When you listen to a song in Windows Media Player, it gets out all the necessary info and it updates your Profile on the site.
The site is offering XML files which can be downloaded. What i have in mind is to write a servlet to get the XML file from the Last.fm Site and store it in my engineering server. And immediately Apply XSLT on it and Show an HTML page on the fly.So when ever you listen to a song the info is updated in the XML file and then once you call the servlet it gets you the updated XML file and converts it into HTML

musicXML

I wanted do work on some project involving MusicXML.It is a very interesting topic to look into. i found tons of stuff there. I practically listen to music 24 hours a day. Huge fan of music of all sorts. Ranges from Richard Wagner to Dimmu Borgir.

but for musicXML the ideal music would be the instrumental music .MIDI would be best repersented by XML.
I looked upon a few musicXML technologies and a few softwares. There are 2 minor Problems here.
1) The Software does everything for you.It converts MIDI to XML and XML to MIDI automatically. So there is very little for you to do.
2) Most of the Demo Software wont Allow you to convert MIDI to XML .and they Cost 600$ for the full version.

They have a humongous Advantage. The software is very easy to use.And altering the MIDI is easy both interms of XML and the software.

But i dont have the resources to Play around with musicXML and come up with some fancy project. For now , I am thinking of something do with a Music Database.

Post II

A long awaited second post. I must say the XML is very interesting to learn. I had never worked up any html page. and it was a nice experience to actually modify the zwift.html and create a page of your own.
I enjoyed working on the SVG too. I experimented a lot on it.

I am working on the second assignment now.
My quiz last class went well. (i think)
Have to start preparing for the next class..
